I prayed about it beforehand, and had decided to donate 100% of my honorarium to the Community Outreach program at Marian House. The day after my speaking event, I found out that a local woman had contacted Marian House in desperate need of money to help cover rent—otherwise, she was about to be evicted. I knew it was a “God-thing” when I heard it was the exact amount I donated via the money I received for speaking.

This notion of giving back and doing little things is quite easy to do. It provides you with immense strength and can become the foundation for your life. Aristotle sums it up when he said,  “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

My mom, Lila Dixon, volunteers her time doing community outreach with a group of African refugees in our home town of Colorado Springs. This holiday season she invited a group of people over to experience the joy of the season in her home. She explained the significance of many American traditions, and we were treated to a traditional African Christmas song!
